Mentoring, Teaching and Consultancy

I can only describe her as a lighthouse – she helps me on the stormy days, shows me a way when I don’t know where to go next and helps me map and plan in a life changing way.” Sian Owen, Playwright

I have a extensive experience of teaching dramaturgy and playwriting in Universities and Higher Education Institutions, including on the Playwriting MA at Goldsmiths, Bristol Old Vic, University of the Arts. I was in-house at LAMDA for seven years as Associate Dramaturg where I ran the New Writing Projects with undergraduate and post-graduate actors and taught dramaturgy to MA Directors

I have delivered workshops on playwriting and dramaturgy across a wide range of settings from schools and colleges, community and professional groups. I have devised and delivered writers’ programmes with organisations such as Bristol Old Vic, Graeae, Soho Theatre, Hall for Cornwall and Theatre503.

I mentor playwrights for higher education, theatre companies and as individuals, including as part of DYCP processes and writer development projects. Recent mentoring includes for Bath Spa, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Adopt a Playwright, Peggy Ramsay Foundation and individual DYCPs.

As a consultant I support playwrights and people working with them in planning creative and professional development processes. I have set up and run networks, conferences and professional development opportunities regionally, nationally and internationally. I have run and read for national playwriting competitions including The Bruntwood, The Women’s Playwriting Prize and The Verity Bargate Award.

I deliver one and one dramaturgy to individual writers on a short, medium and longer-term basis.

As a neurodivergent practitioner myself, I am particularly curious about and have developed processes for dramaturgical processes tailored to neurodivergent working.
