“It’s a statement piece full of wit and warmth, love and loss – mesmerising, thought-provoking and impassioned” THE STAGE on The Commotion Time
As a playwright I have a particular passion for female-centred narratives that rediscover, reclaim and reframe female experience both in the past and in the present. I am a enthusiastic collaborator with other artists, experts and communities, and see the building of villages around a piece of work as integral to my research and development processes.
I am currently the Peggy Ramsay Playwright73 Writer in Residence at Exeter Northcott and Shakespeare’s Globe, where I am researching and writing a play which moves between C15th Cornwall and London, collaborating with communities in North Cornwall and the City of London, Cornish Language experts and historians, as well as theatre makers. My residency follows the successful production of my play, The Commotion Time, by Exeter Northcott in October 2024, which received 5 star reviews and had a near sell-out run at the theatre.
I am co-writing with theatremaker Sam Hodges and songwriters, Miranda Cooper, Jon Shave and Jason Pebworth, a pop musical, Everything’s Fine, which explores the tensions between being an artist and a mother in an increasingly commercially driven music industry. This is commissioned by Tilted Co and Eleanor Lloyd Productions.
I am collaborating with artist and producer Becca Gill, on the development of a play about the C18th mathematician and astronomer, Caroline Herschel, in association with the Bath Preservation Trust.
My previous playwriting includes PowerPlay – a site-specific play for Hampton Court directed by Jo McInnes, which played through the Tudor Rooms in the summer of 2018, West Ealing – a radio play for Theatre503 and Rose Bruford, and From The Horses Mouth – short plays inspired by my hometown of Bude for O-Region.
